Picture: My Mate The PM- National Newspapers- ***December 2011***

Plasterer Dean Wallis contacted us after bumping into PM Dvaid Cameron on a night out and having his photo taken with him.

Mr Cameron looked somewhat bemused in the photo as Dean appeared to almost have him in a headlock.

We initially sold the story and photo as an exclsuive and are now syndicating the picture for Dean to make him even more money.

Beaming for the camera with his arms wrapped around the Prime Minister, you could be forgiven for thinking the man with David Cameron was one of his closest friends.

In fact, Dean Wallis, a 33-year-old plasterer, had never met Mr Cameron before, and had just cheekily asked for a photograph after spotting him dining in a Soho restaurant.

Mr Wallis and his girlfriend, PA Lorna Redmond, 24, seized their opportunity while on a work night out last month in the basement of upmarket brasserie NOPI.

He was so proud of the result he has a copy in his living room and his mother has another in a silver frame.

'He was sitting down and it was difficult to get to his height so I ended up leaning over and putting my arms around him,' said Mr Wallis of the Prime Minister.

'A lot of people have said they can't believe how close we got to him but a waitress told me he'd booked under another name, armed police had been in to check the place and I was wearing a shirt and tie, so maybe he felt at ease.'

Recalling the November 10 encounter, Mr Wallis, of Acocks Green, Birmingham, said: 'One of the lads mentioned Mr Cameron was on the ground floor and I thought I'd see if it was true.

'He was with five or six people. I don't think his wife was there. He was actually a bit under-dressed compared to other people because he was wearing a polo shirt.

'I approached him and I said, "Hello, my name's Dean". He shook my hand and I asked if it was OK to have a photo with him.

'He said, "I'm just having my dinner at the moment, Dean" and I said, "OK, I'll leave you to it". He was very polite about it.'

Mr Wallis thought his chance had passed but later he was called over to see Mr Cameron, who said: 'Sorry about earlier. I was eating my dinner. Would you and your girlfriend like a picture?'

'I couldn't believe the Prime Minister was saying sorry to me,' said Mr Wallis. 'It was brilliant.'

Miss Redmond, also of Acocks Green, said: 'I think he put his arm around me for the photo but I can't be 100 per cent because I'd had a few glasses of champagne.'
