Katie Price hits out after tanning salon turns her away because she's pregnant

The 35-year-old model was told she was too big a risk as a customer because she wouldn’t be insured for a sunbed treatment.

Katie Price is browned off at a tanning salon that turned her away because she’s pregnant.

The 35-year-old model was told she was too big a risk as a customer because she wouldn’t be insured for a sunbed treatment.

Katie promptly walked out and found a place that would let her go under the lights.

Her spokeswoman said: “Katie went to another salon where she was not treated as though she were abnormal simply because she is pregnant.”

Abi Williams, owner of Tan Fx in Caterham, Surrey, later spoke about the incident on Facebook saying: “Just turned Katie Price away from a sunbed – ouch!!

“She is quite heavily pregnant. Apparently salons near her do (let her use sunbeds) but, as much as she’s a great customer, it’s not worth the risk.”

The Facebook posting added: “It’s not against the law, but I run a tight ship and she wouldn’t be insured... hopefully see her again once she has had her baby!”

The post was later removed. Katie insists sunbeds ARE safe for pregnant women to use. Her spokeswoman added: “Katie has taken medical advice on this issue and is happy that occasional short use of sunbeds is not an issue during pregnancy.”

Medical experts are not so sure though... and discourage their use by pregnant woman. A spokesman for the Government’s new Public Health England organisation said: “The World Health Organization’s advice is that pregnant women should not make use of UV tanning equipment.

“Public Health England agrees with this advice and also discourages the useof sunbeds for cosmetic tanning.”

But the NHS Choices website says there is no clear evidence about the effects of sunbed UV rays on unborn babies.

It states: “Some studiesshow that there may be a link between increased UV rays and a folic acid deficiency. This is because UV rays can break down folic acid.

“Folic acid is very important in the development of the baby’s neural system (brain and spinal cord) which is formed during weeks one to 13 of pregnancy.”

Katie isn’t saying when her baby is due, but she is thought to be around six months pregnant.

It will be her first child with stripper husband Kieran Hayler, 10 years her junior at 25. They married last year after dating for just a few months. She is already mum to Harvey, 11, Junior, seven, and Princess, five.
